The BrownHouse Interiors opened its doors back in 2019 and we had our eye on ceramics right from the very start. We wanted to gain a reputation for being the best CERAMICS SHOP IN SW8.
Styles of Ceramics
We have tinkered with many styles of ceramics in our SW8 store as well as online and Trouva too. From chinoiserie blue and whites to very ethnic and rustic pottery through to plasterwork and porcelain. We were trying to see what works best for us.
Strangely after 2 years of painstaking work looking at new and traditional styles and methods of ceramic work, as well as looking at sell-throughs and client requests etc we are still no clearer as to what would be the best style and which ceramics works best for us.
We have decided to move forward with crackle glazed, half glazed and rustic earthenware in the future , this is our favourite style and also think that with a larger collection of a single style we would gain a loyal following and clients would get to know that we stock a real good selection of this relaxed luxury type of ceramics.
We have so far had a really good loyal client base who enjoy the constant changing and evolving collections we have in our Battersea shop, we are based at 42 Queenstown Road Battersea SW8 3RY which is fast becoming known as the Queenstown Design Quarter by locals and people from further afield as well. The BrownHouse Interiors stocks a really good selection of ceramics and other items too such as home fragrance, soft furnishings and lighting. We have a small selection of furniture on display as well and have a real large stable of international furniture suppliers that we can source special order furniture pieces for our clients both in store and for interior design projects as well.
We are drawn to imperfection really, its a kind of relaxed luxury that only comes from the imperfection of having things that are made by hand , this can be plates that do not quite stack perfectly or two vases that are somehow not quite exactly the same. Strangely, or perhaps not, these pieces are hard to find and when you do discover the right type of thing they are nearly always very expensive. This is because ceramics of this type and quality take time to create , this is a artisans’ time and effort as well and know how and creativity that you are paying for, this is very different from some mass produced item that is simply popped out of a machine and are produced in the thousands.
Yours will truly be unique like a piece of art, a one and only design. These are pieces that stand on their own lit properly and will give you pleasure for a long while. These are timeless pieces. You don’t need many just a few well chosen ones .
All in all ceramics are the jewellery that finishes of your interior design scheme, they give you and your guests something to look at and if they are really good something to discuss too. It is worth searching for the right thing and it is worth spending as much as you can on these pieces as the really good ones appreciate in the same way that art appreciates. It could end up being your nest egg for when you are old, but parting with it then would be like selling off an old friend and that would be sad. Hold on to your favourite pieces and enjoy them for years to come.
Real interior design is for people with real lives, it is usually a well travelled look displaying objects and items from a persons travels, whether they be items of storage , items the remind us of a certain time or place or just items that have been collected over a space in time that we fell in love with and just had to have. This is true interior design , its about lighting and positioning of these items to get the best effect and to make each and every item stand out and have its own importance in a space. Ceramics play a very important role in interior design. Embrace them they will not disappoint.
